So me and my spouse, Clover, are in the process of getting evicted, and while we’ve found a place to stay, we need help getting the money together to get there safely.
Any donation is appreciated, as well as just spreading this around for more people to see it, thank you
When you wake up in the morning, your mind typically expects a human body to be looking you in the mirror. So why is it that this feels so normal? Why does the change feel like no change at all? Why is the thought of inhabiting a human body suddenly so foreign and disturbing?
When you wake up in the morning, your stomach typically asks to be filled with carbohydrates and proteins and vitamins. So why is it that all of that seems so unappetizing now? Why are you suddenly craving kerosene?
After a moment, your thought process returns to normal. You’re hungry. You should brush your hair this morning, too. So you decide to get up and take care of your morning routine.
You should probably report these side-effects to someone. But you aren’t sure who. Besides, won’t they ground you for a while if you tell them this is happening? You wouldn’t want that. To have your wings taken away from you.
Making your way down the hall to the hangar, you pass by one of your fellow processors. They greet you with a wave and a “Good morning.” Their voice sounds like a lo-fi transmission. You try your best to ignore it and simply return the greeting.
Upon entering the hangar, you’re met with a peculiar sight. That’s you in there. But that can’t be you. You’re right here. But that’s definitely you… That fuselage, the cockpit, the wings and fins…
That’s you, beyond a shadow of a doubt!
But it isn’t you. Not right now. That’s only you when the mind bridge is active. You’re feeling echoes of that link. The lingering sensation of the connection. That’s what these side-effects are, you remember reading about them.
One detail I’ve always really liked in dunmeshi’s worldbuilding is the difference in life expectancies among races. I don’t mean the different rates at which they age but specifically how long they live from the point of view of their own group. For example, dwarfs are directly stated to age 2.5x slower than a tall-man, but where tall-men’s life expectancy is only about 60, for a dwarf it would be about 200 (equivalent to 80).
At first this stood out as odd to me but it makes sense when you look up the average lifespan for every race. In general, the short-lived races all have a smaller age of maturity to life expectancy ratio than all the long-lived ones.
I really love this discrepancy because the implication here is that long-lived races not only have longer lifespans due to aging slower, but they also just live longer generally due to a better quality of life, as they have taken the most fertile and livable lands to themselves, resulting in less conflicts over resources and faster technological developments.
Ultimately how long you live isn’t just a fantastical element of the setting, but a political one as well.
taking note of how quickly men calm down after you bend to their will is life-changing because you realize they were never really out of control, they were never really as angry and affected as they appeared. they just knew how to act out aggresssively enough to make you believe it was your fault that they lost their senses.
in 2019 we start recognizing men’s manipulation tactics and start living for ourselves!
The concepts of NSFW is being cleared of the Internet under the false pretense of children’s safety when it’s really about the people in power sanitising for advertisers and pushing evangelical narratives AND that not enough is done to keep legitimately harmful content off of spaces that minors have access to are ideas that can coexist
can adults have their own fucking space?
a lot of people are misunderstanding this post. minors arent taking away your spaces. the internet is not being made safer for children, it is being sanitised for advertisers.
And also: minors’ spaces are being taken away.
When I was a kid, “barbie.com” looked like this
But now, if you type “Barbie.com” you’re taken immediately to Mattel’s online shop, surrounded by nothing but “shop now” links and toy collections.
Disney channel’s website is now “Disneynow.com” which still has games and shows appropriate for kids, but is aimed towards a younger audience as it combines Disney Jr and Disney Channel properties, and the look of the entire site is very juvenile and not very appealing to kids in the tween and young teen demographics.
Nick.com has been similarly streamlined and is focused primarily on streaming its shows, and the only games still left are 10 apps that can’t be played on browser.
Kid-friendly sites like icarly.com, Poptropica, Club Penguin, Neopets, Webkinz etc used to be insanely relevant and popular spaces built for kids and tweens.
Now, kids are being funneled into less moderated, more exploitative, and more public spaces like Roblox (its dangerous and exploitative nature exposed in these videos from People Make Games: (x)(x)), Fortnite (known for its gambling and microtransaction issues), and social media sites like TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter.
My elementary aged cousins spend their time on Roblox, YouTube, and some less than reputable game sites that are full of ads and stolen/reposted/reskinned games. My sister was on Musically/Tiktok and Twitter in middle school. They don’t have the same options for having fun online that I did when I was a kid, especially not when they get too old for nickjr and disneynow.
The internet has been condensed into about 5 popular sites that are full of ads, and it’s not fair to anyone.
there are plenty of more important things that I think ao3 should address and even like. plenty of more important tags that I think should be fixed however it is extremely funny to me that if you tag something as “newtypes” it’s linked to the canonical tag “Newtypes (Gundam Wing)” when not only is that not the show where newtypes originated, it also just straight up does not have actual newtypes in it at all
